AGNES BURGER
Agnes Burger was born in Lodz/Poland in 1978. The family emigrated to West Germany in 1987. After graduating from high school, she first studied psychology and art history at the UCSB in Santa Barbara California and then returned to Berlin to study acting. As an actress, she has worked both in front of and behind the camera and works as a speaker and editor in the synchronization studio.
She developed her passion for photography very early on and often worked as a set photographer on film sets and was responsible for behind the scenes shots. Also she was able to work with well known cinematographers where she learned her cinematic approach to her photography.
Her main focus on street and documentary photography came around 2018. Traveling to many cities around the world she collects impressions, montents and grotesque scenes from diffrent cultures, always with the aspect of humanity and emotional empathy.

In her photo series, by the street and documentary photographer, people are at the center of the scene – often in a humorous, idiosyncratic, thoughtful or bizarre context to their surroundings. It takes on almost symbolic features that enable every viewer to explore the streets of this world in an imaginative way and to find themselves in them. Just one moment…but miles away..
She was hosting and interviewing Martin Parr in Brussels, also having an interview with the Jill Freedman Foundation in Dublin in 2024.
Since 2023 she is part of the Team Street Macadam @street_macadam where she presents the work of other photographers in English-language lives.
Her work has been exhibited in the Leica Store in Munich, also in New York @womenstreetphotographers, Dublin @dsp_festival, Venice @venicephotolab, in several Galleries in Paris, in the Museu da Imagem em Movimento in Portugal.
A Zine with her work is published with her work she was shooting on the streets of New York with the title ”The Silent Rebels“.
