Juan Carlos Reyes García, October 2, 1970, Oaxaca, Mexico
Oaxacan photographer since 1988, Juan Carlos Reyes García has shaped his craft through storytelling and personal connection, always seeking a reflection of the other to reaffirm his identity and sense of belonging to the land.
He was part of the Luz 96 collective in Oaxaca, which, through collaboration with maestro Francisco Toledo, led to the creation of the Manuel Álvarez Bravo Photography Center (CFMAB) in 1996. He authored the book Las Mujeres que no se Fueron in 2003, in partnership with the Oaxaca Women’s Institute.
His work is featured in the José F. Gómez Collection of the Manuel Álvarez Bravo Photography Center.
He has been published in numerous national and international media outlets. As a member of Mexico’s National System of Art Creators, he is also a Bertha Foundation fellow, the recipient of the FUJIFILM GFX Challenge Grant Program 2023, and winner of the jury prize in the 2024 El México de los Mexicanos competition, organized by the Banamex Foundation.
