Photographer / Speaker
Sandra Hernández, also known as Vita Flumen, is a Mexican-Canadian photographer based in Mexico. Ten years ago, she decided to listen to her inner child and follow the call of photography, leaving behind a prolific career in architecture, a discipline that shaped her understanding of visual language and urban space. Inspired by Georges Perec’s notion of the infraordinary, her work critically documents the everyday life that swirls between breaking news and forgotten stories, revealing the complexity of the human experience.
She is the founder of Observadores Urbanos, a platform dedicated to the dissemination of Latin American street and documentary photography and the construction of a community of visual storytellers in the region. Through this initiative, she edited the “Antología de Fotografía de Calle Mexicana,” the first book of its kind in the country.
Her work, which traverses different photographic genres, has been published in media such as Forbes, La Vanguardia, Gatopardo, and L’Oeil de la Photographie, among others. In addition to collaborating with Reuters and various agencies, media outlets, and NGOs, she has participated in more than fifty exhibitions on four continents and has been awarded in prestigious national and international photography competitions.
Sandra is a member of communities such as Women Photograph, The Raw Society, and Women Street Photographers, and is an alumna of the Eddie Adams Workshop. Currently, she is the official photographer of La Carrera Panamericana and a Fujifilm ambassador, a role that allows her to inspire and support other photographers while continuing to evolve in her practice.
In parallel with her photographic production, she is a professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, organizes photography workshops in different countries, and gives talks at various international photography forums and festivals.
